- Also known as Heliotrope, Bloodstone is a variety of jasper or chalcedony made of microcrystalline quartz. Its red flecks come from iron oxide (usually hematite) embedded in dark green quartz. Historically, it was worn by warriors and athletes for protection and stamina, and it’s been found in artifacts dating back to Ancient Greece and India. Most Bloodstone today comes from India, Brazil, and Australia.
